Biography

Steve has been passionate about photography since his childhood years growing up in St Ives, Cornwall. At first he borrowed his dad’s camera and then saved up to buy his own SLR when he was just 13 years old, a fully manual film camera that taught him the essential basics of working with light and using the camera as a tool to create the visual effects that he desired.

At college in Penzance he continued to learn more about photography, using medium format camera equipment and experimenting with darkroom techniques in the college darkroom. He later went on to gain a BA (Hons) from Newport School of Art, Media and Design where he developed his photographic skills further, in the context of graphic design. He ran his own freelance design business throughout the 90’s, before going on to work for some of Europe’s most acclaimed design and communications consultancies, in London.

In 2006, his lifelong passion for photography mixed with a love of the coast led Steve away from the "Big Smoke" of London to the big skies of East Anglia, where he set up Coastal Studios and subsequently, Coastal Brides.
